Introduction

In Marvel Super War Ebony Maw is represented really well like most of the other heroes and you will “feel” as if you are indeed playing with him. He is a support with the high damage potential and the unpredictable gameplay which makes him a respectful adversary and a welcome ally.

Ebony Maw is a supervillain and a member of Thanos’ Black Order. He isn’t known for his fighting prowess, but for the superior intellect which enables him to charm even the characters with the strongest willpower. He even charmed Doctor Strange at one point, so you can imagine the manipulation power he possesses. He acts as the voice of Thanos, always doing his bidding and never failing his tasks. Even communicating with the citizens of the conquered planets and explaining how they are “liberated” and that they should rejoice.

Ebony Maw appeared in movies, voiced by Tom Vaughan-Lawlor. You might remember (SPOILER) that he imprisoned Doctor Strange and tried to make him give up any information regarding the Time Stone. Then the Iron Man and Spider Man appeared to help their ally and after a fight they sent him out into space, killing him in the process.

PROS

  • Versatile gameplay. You are never bored with Ebony Maw, he can always come up with new ways to surprise an enemy

  • Excellent support and self-sustain abilities. Being able to shield and heal both allies and yourself is rare, especially when you combine it with the massive raw damage-dealing potential

CONS

  • No mobility. That’s the only true problem he has, you need to have good positioning and battle awareness, otherwise, you will jeopardize yourself often

  • Takes some time to get used to playing with him, not recommended for new players

Ebony Maw early game (lvl 8)

It is of utmost importance to use the Arc Reactor as your first item as you need to use a lot of abilities, especially because of Ebony Maw’s host mechanics.

Black Tongue is your natural passive. It causes confusion for six seconds to the enemy foes that are hit three times with either basic attacks or abilities. While the confusion itself doesn’t do anything it enhances and enables some of your other abilities.

At first you should take Mindsteal, as this is your main source of damage and heal throughout the round. It is good for minion clearing and it also heals an ally (or yourself) with the lowest heal when it explodes after being deployed for 1 second. Focus on maximizing it as soon as possible, but only after you unlock your other abilities. Bewilderment is his second ability and it unleashes a bold of dark energy that charms the first enemy hero it hits making him walk towards you for a second. If the enemy is in the state of confusion, it will also affect the heroes around him. Great way to cc a group of enemies, but kind of hard to pull off as there are a lot of factors to your success chance. Psychic Entity would be your second skill of choice (not counting the ultimate), and this is unique skill. You will attach to the host, becoming a parasite but your host can be either a friend or a foe. Depending on the host the skill changes, shielding an ally and giving him some speed boost, while damaging an enemy and ticking him with extra damage for each second you are in his mind. You can use all of your abilities while you are in the host, but they are somewhat changed. They all have a medium range and they basically act as an area of effect abilities. Your ultimate is channeled up to three seconds and it becomes more powerful the more you charge it.

Enough about explaining the mechanics, let’s talk about the gameplay. You will be in the bottom lane with another ally, probably a marksman. It is important to stay with any ally, as you can immensely help them and they can help you unlock your full potential as you need a host for your parasite. What you want to do at the start is hit the foe with Bewilderment and charm him to apply Mindsteal successfully and to heal all the time. Also, after this combo, your target will become vulnerable to Psychic Entity, and you can dig into his brain to finish him off. Try to stay in your host for as much as possible, as each second is ticking damage to your target. Your damage skill will refresh as soon as you enter another target and you can use it another time. This is good for a quick burst against an unsuspecting target. The best way to utilize your ultimate would also be while you are in your host as he has no means to escape. Most foes are not considering Ebony Maw to be any form of threat and they will regret it quickly. If you see an ally being attacked while you are skirmishing apply the Entity to shield him, while also increasing his move speed to help him flee. It sounds kind of tricky to pull off all of it, but when you get used to his gameplay after a few rounds it will all come pretty natural and become simple enough.

Ebony Maw mid-late game

In the mid game, you want to stay with your allies and try to attach to the tank instead of damage dealer. First of all, they live much longer and secondly, they are always in the thick of the fight and you want to affect as much foes as possible with your damaging skills and especially the ultimate. Being attached to the enemy can be risky at this point of the game as they can pull back as far as possible, leaving you in a pickle, far away from your teammates and any form of help. Of course, you want to use your abilities in a same way as you are in the early game BEFORE you attach to the friendly tank or bruiser. This way, you will get refreshed abilities when you attach, and after you are kicked out of the host most of your abilities will become refreshed again, making you burst huge damage in a quick succession. If you get attacked by the enemy junglers at any point you won’t be able to run away in any normal way, you need to either try to attach to your friendly hero that’s standing close or to try to use Bewilderment, Mindsteal and quickly try to make him your host. After you use your abilities in the host again, try to run off or to outright kill your assailant, as he won’t have much health after that combo.
